On the 12th March 1919, a circular was sent out to collectors of postage stamps in Blackpool and St. Annes—on-Sea by Mr H.W. Cleaver, of 75 Orchard Road, St. Annes convening a meeting at Cain's Cafe, The Square, St. Annes at 8 o'clock on the evening of March 21st 1919.

At this meeting, only six attended, Mr JH Clothier, Mr W Dodd (elected vice—President), Dr T Fearnhead (elected President), Mr AE Dickson, Mr J Hargreaves and Mr HW Cleaver (elected Hon. Secretary). A motion was approved, deciding to hold meetings on the first and third Fridays of each month, with next meeting to be held on 4th April 1919, when a draft rules will be presented, each member to bring along something of philatelic interest.

Between 1919 and 1926 Meetings were held at Cain's Safe, The Square, St. Annes (1919-1923) and Riley‘s Cafe, Orchard Road, St. Annes (1922-1926). In 1925-26, Interest in the Society was so good, that no subscriptions were paid, and this was the only Society in Great Britain, to hold that distinction.

1926 saw the Society organising its first Picnic, held at Windermere, to visit the lovely home of Mr William Dodd JP., a fouider member of the Society, who had shown his wonderful stamp collection to his guests delight and appreciation.

1926-1927, Meetings alternated between St. Annes (Palace Cafe), Lytham (Dickenson's Cafe) and Blackpool (Bees Cafe). Meetings were held at Manrico Café, Clifton St, Blackpool (1928-1930), and 1927-1933 at the County Office in Preston (joint meetings with Preston PS). When the Second World War started in 1939, a large number of philatelists  came to live in Blackpool, with many becoming members. The Society did great work for the Red Cross and Bombed Babies Fund. A total of £63.17s.6d raised for the Red Cross by sale of philatelic items.

Between 1933-1949 Meetings again regularly moved, Robson's Café, Waterloo Road, Blackpool (1933-1938), Cramonde Café and The Strand Club, both also of Blackpool (1938-1949). As the meetings gradually took place in Blackpool alone, once again this led to a name change in 1948, to the Blackpool and Fylde Philatelic Society. From June 1st 1946, meetings were held on Saturday afternoons. For some time it was felt, that a Society was needed in Lytham St. Annes to cater for the local Philatelists.

On 13th May 1959, a group of 16 Philatelists met at the Rest Room of the War Memorial Homes, Smithy Lane, St. Annes, intent on leaving the Blackpool and Fylde Society, and thus creating, a new Society to be known as, The Lytham St. Annes Philatelic Society.

Bunting presented each member with a cover commemorating the event, which had been postmarked at the London 1980 Stamp Exhibition, with the date of  13th May 1980, being the 21st Anniversary.

1984, 9th June, The Society held its First Stamp Fair,(Silver Jubilee Fair), celebrating 25 years of LSAPS at the Clifton Drive Methodist Church Hall, in St. Annes. Over the years the Fair has become a popular annual event, due mainly to the hard work and enthtsiasm of its Organiser, Mr Graham Chadwick (who retired from the role after the 2011 Fair). A Commemorative Cover for the event was produced, designed Mrs  Gladys Hall.

1990, The Society commissioned a Limited Edition Die—Cast Model Bus, Lledo LP15157, to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of issue of the Penny Black Postage stamp. The buses are scarce and very collectable today.

2009, Saturday 30“ May, The Lytham St. Annes Philatelic Society celebrated its 50th Anniversary, also incorporating the 90th Anniversary of the Blackpool and Fylde Philatelic Society with a Celebration Dinner at the Glendower Hotel, St. Annes. Guests of Honour were Mr and Mrs Paul Gaywood.
